Sanzen-in and Ohara
Take Kyoto Bus 17 to Ohara, then walk to Sanzen-in. Allow 1.5-2 hours for the moss garden and cedar forest. Reference admission is about JPY700 and reference hours are 09:00-17:00.
Ruriko-in (seasonal)
Return to Ohara and take Kyoto Bus 17 to Yase Station-mae, then walk about five minutes. Ruriko-in is not open year-round and may require a reservation. Skip it when closed and continue to Kifune.
Kifune Shrine
Walk to Yase-Hieizanguchi, take the Eizan Railway toward Kifuneguchi, then bus 33 to the shrine area. Visit the main shrine and Okunomiya, photograph the lantern steps, and try the water fortune. Bus 33 may finish early, so confirm the final service before entering the mountain area.
Suggested timing
08:00 Kyoto Station; 09:00 Ohara; 09:15-11:15 Sanzen-in; 12:00-14:00 Ruriko-in and transfer; 15:15-17:15 Kifune Shrine; 18:30-19:30 return to central Kyoto.
Carry an ICOCA or Suica, cash, water, rain gear and comfortable non-slip shoes. Confirm Ruriko-in opening, Kyoto Bus 17, Eizan Railway connections and bus 33 on the day.
